WHY CHOOSE A WATER BOREHOLE

A private water supply from a borehole can be very beneficial.

Water boreholes are a sustainable and reliable water supply.

A water borehole, sources natural water directly to your property without the need to pay for a mains supply, which could save you thousands of pounds a year, depending on your water usage.

We can carry out any water borehole drilling and installation, water sampling and water treatment recommendations/installation if necessary. Or if preferred, we can carry out a smaller operation to include water borehole drilling/installation and installation of the submersible pump and headworks only.

We serve a variety of clients for many different purposes:

  • Livestock boreholes
  • Domestic boreholes
  • Agricultural boreholes
  • Leisure industry boreholes
  • Dairy wash-down boreholes
  • Irrigation boreholes
  • Haulage wash-down boreholes
  • Water monitoring boreholes

  • Pond/lake/fishery boreholes
  • Industrial process boreholes

Presently abstractions of less than 20m3/day do not require an abstraction licence from the Environment Agency. If the abstraction of water is greater than 20m3/day an abstraction licence is required.

  • FAQs

    WATER BOREHOLES

is borehole water safe to drink?

Usually but not always. We recommend that water quality tests are carried out following the installation of the borehole and, if required, water treatment systems are installed.

do i need a licence to install a water borehole?

Anyone can extract up to 20,000 litres of water per day without the need for a licence, If you have plans to extract more than this volume of water a day, you will almost definitely need a licence.

how deep is a water borehole?

A typical water borehole is around 60-80 meters deep, however this is specific to each individual site.

The depth of the boreholes depends on the geology and hydrogeology.

is borehole water better than mains water?

An increasing volume of mains water comes from recycled waste water! To ensure the water maintains a satisfactory quality through the long distance pipe work, mains water contains chlorine, fluoride, and other chemicals. Private borehole water should have no requirement for any chemicals and provide pure drinking water of a very high quality, borehole water may require filtration to remove disolved mineral present in the water supply.

will i save money with a water borehole?

Investing in a water borehole could save you thousands of pounds every year!

If you are a large water user, like a dairy farm for example, the savings can be huge compared with metered mains water, some large water users can returned their investment in under 9 months!

Smaller users may take longer to recoup their investment.

is it possible to share a borehole water supply?

One water borehole can supply more than one property, you may wish to club together with a neighbour to enable one borehole to supply several houses and share the installation costs!

If my private water supply develops a problem, can I switch back to a mains supply until it's fixed?

Yes you can, and we would always advise that you have a system in case of this event.

You will still have to pay the standing charge to the water company but will not have to pay for any water unless you need to use it.

How long does it take to drill a borehole?

It depends on the depth and the geology which we encounter. Typically, somewhere between 2-3 days is all that is required.
